2008 hat SHIMANO mit der DURA-ACE 7970 Gruppe erstmals elektronische Schaltkomponenten im Fahrradbereich eingeführt. 2011 wurde diese Technologie dann auch auf ULTEGRA Niveau verfügbar. Jetzt kommt die elektronische Schalttechnologie (Di2) auch in der erst kürzlich vorgestellten neuen ULTEGRA 6800 Gruppe zum Einsatz. Traditionell ist es der ULTEGRA vorbehalten, im Profi-Bereich bewährte neue Technologien einer breiteren Zielgruppe zugänglich zu machen, so auch diesmal.
